January 2017

January has been very hot and dry.

However, we have had a greater range of birds coming into the garden to visit the birdbath and seed tray.  These now include Galahs (with begging young), Rainbow Lorikeets, Crimson Rosellas (with begging young), a lone King Parrot, Crested Pigeons, House Sparrows, and Sulphur-crested Cockatoos.  I need to hunt the Cockatoos after a bit as they gorge themselves on the seed, and chase off all the other birds.

Started near a kids' playground and thankfully the bush-fire brigade was on top of it very quickly.

Red-rumped Grass Parrot.  The abundance of seed has brought these into my walking area.

It was near here that my son's drone was attacked by a Nankeen Kestrel.

2016 Reviewed

On scrolling through my photos for 2016, it seems that from February to November there are photos of my local creek in flood/semi flood.  It was a wet year, and I have kept flooded creeks to a minimum.

Winds and wet year loosened the roots of this gum and it started leaning out over the road.  SES were advised and it has now been removed.
